1ST STUDY: SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (SEM)

This technique allows precise visualisation of the cuticle condition and the hair surface in great detail:
• The condition of the cuticles before and after using the protocol
• The reduction of visible damage
• The repairing action directly on the hair fibre

2ND STUDY: COLORIMETRIC EVALUATION

To assess the effect on the sulphur bonds of the hair, the thiol group content was measured using the Ellman test. This test is based on a colorimetric reaction: thiols react with the DTNB reagent to release a yellow compound measured at 412 nm using a spectrophotometer.

Two measurements are taken:
1. Free thiols naturally present in the hair
2. Total thiols after complete reduction of disulphide bonds with sodium borohydride (NaBH4). The samples are incubated, neutralised and then analysed to quantify the thiols from the absorbance obtained.
