Reactive hair loss

Reactive hair loss: what to do?

Reactive hair loss is sudden and temporary, triggered by a specific factor (stress, fatigue, seasonal change, childbirth, dieting). It often occurs 2 to 3 months after the trigger and usually resolves on its own.

Key points to remember

  • Reactive hair loss (or telogen effluvium) is sudden and temporary.
  • It often appears 2 to 3 months after the triggering factor.
  • Common triggers: stress, fatigue, seasonal change, postpartum period, dieting, fever.
  • It is most often reversible: address the trigger and support the hair fibre.
  • Targeted treatments reduce hair loss: −61% with the spray and −44% with the shampoo*.
  • Hair loss lasting more than 6 months or worsening requires medical advice.

What is reactive hair loss?

We refer to reactive hair loss — or telogen effluvium — when an event suddenly shifts a large number of hairs into the shedding phase. As a result, a few months later, you lose noticeably more hair than usual, often diffusely across the entire scalp. Unlike progressive hair loss, it is temporary and reversible.

What are the causes?

  • Intense stress or emotional shock.
  • Severe fatigue or overwork.
  • Seasonal change (often autumn).
  • The postpartum period (postpartum hair loss).
  • A restrictive diet or deficiency (particularly iron).
  • A fever, illness or medical procedure.

What can you do in practice?

  • Address the trigger: rest, stress management, sleep.
  • Rebalance your diet (protein, iron, zinc).
  • Use targeted treatments that reduce hair loss and strengthen the hair fibre.
  • Adopt gentle habits (less heat, gentle brushing).
  • Be patient: the cycle rebalances within a few months.

The Luxéol Reactive Hair Loss range

We have developed a range dedicated to reactive hair loss linked to stress, fatigue or seasonal change, whose effectiveness has been measured in a clinical study under dermatological supervision.

Clinically proven

Luxéol Reactive Hair Loss range

Shampoo, conditioner, mask and spray enriched with keratin (patented process), to help reduce reactive hair loss and strengthen the hair fibre. Clinical results: −61% hair loss with the spray and −44% with the shampoo*, after 3 months. Sulphate-free, made in France.

When should you seek advice?

Reactive hair loss generally resolves on its own. Consult a doctor or dermatologist if it lasts more than six months, worsens, is accompanied by bald patches or other symptoms (marked fatigue): an assessment will help rule out a deficiency or another cause.
