1ST STUDY: SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (SEM)

This technique allows precise observation of cuticle condition and high-detail visualisation of the hair surface:
• Cuticle condition before and after using the protocol

Measured using an optical microscope on 10 tresses, this high-resolution visual analysis concretely and objectively demonstrates the effectiveness of the surface repair protocol.

2ND STUDY: COLORIMETRIC EVALUATION

To evaluate the effect on the hair's sulphur bonds, thiol group content was measured using Ellman's test. This test is based on a colorimetric reaction: thiols react with DTNB reagent to release a yellow compound measured at 412 nm with a spectrophotometer.

Two measurements are taken:
1. free thiols naturally present in the hair
2. total thiols after complete reduction of disulphide bonds with sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Samples are incubated, neutralised, and then analysed to quantify thiols from the resulting absorbance.
